Flying Resources

by Peter Cassidy

As a private pilot and owner of an A36 Bonanza, I have found it helpful to document my thoughts on various flying issues and sometimes develop some special forms and worksheets. These resources have been developed for my personal use and are offered to fellow pilots without charge or warranty. Comments are welcome. Most documents are in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.

Engine Monitor Data View data downloaded from my JPI EDM-700 engine monitor. Engine is a standard, non-turbocharged TCM IO-550B. Data records start at 400 hrs on the engine. Table shows peak EGT, CHT and oil temperatures during each flight. Graphs of data are available as well as the raw data. Web page takes considerable time to load. Graphs do not display on all browsers.
Improving Pilot Proficiency We constantly work at staying proficient and improving our flying skills. This paper looks at a systematic way to uncover areas that need extra work. A self-assessment form is included.
Checklist - Emergency This checklist covers the full range of emergency situations. Included also is useful reference information including settings for flight configurations, settings for manual leaning, and the electrical loads of various equipment.
Checklist - Pilot This checklist covers all aspects of flight operation. It is based on a FlightSafety model and is customized for my A36 Bonanza. I have also incorporated items for IFR flight and developed a short checklist for quick turnaround situations. To supplement the formal checklist, I have also developed several quick reference guides.
Checklists With Notes Modern avionics is complex enough that it's easy to forget how to use some functions. A simple solution is to add how-to notes to your checklists.
